John Constantine will have to deal with the consequences of his actions after Forever Evil.
Not only John betrayed his whole team but he also made a pact with the Cult of the Cold Flame and now they own him. However, that might not be his biggest problem since he's now dealing with the Spellbinder, a sorcerer who is able to reach into pyche of others.
This is pretty much a back to basics to Constantine and Ray Fawkes and I'm glad for that, the Forever Evil crossover really affected negatively the pacing and quality of the stories here, but now it seems like Fawkes is in the road to redemption.
This time the writer focuses in a battle of wits between John and Spellbinder while playing with different sub-plots that he has been handling before Forever Evil. It makes the story much richer when you realize all the little hints that Fawkes has been leaving over the course of the run to reach to this conclusion and the result is one of the densest reads of this week for me.
ACO is in charge of pencils here and his work is quite appropriate for this story. It's both abstract and gorgeous with a really distinctive feel that makes the plot even better.
Great issue and it's also nice to have this title return to being enjoyable.
I'm a huge Hellblazer fan, and I'm glad to hear Constantine is back on track. This issue from the previews actually looked pretty great. Thanks for the review. I'll have to check it out.
ResponderBorrarThanks a lot for reading, I'm also glad to have it back, it was a pretty content-packed issue.
BorrarWhat's your opinion of the issues for Constantine before Blight?
ResponderBorrarI thought they were great. Fawkes focused on increasing Constantine's rogue's gallery along with really good aspects of worldbuilding.
BorrarAnd the best part was that he always made John pretty smart, he mostly used his wits to get out of situations.
It seems like this series has a good chance at worldbuilding, not only with new characters, but I wouldn't mind seeing renewed versions of old Hellblazer characters such as the Golden Boy and Map.
ResponderBorrarIt would certainly be cool.
BorrarThe first few issues of the current series where some of the best books from their respective weeks, but I think it would be great to see some reimaginations.
