The Fantastic Four along with the rest of the universe where almost destroyed after the Cataclysm. Now it's time for the Future Foundation to save the world.
Susan Storm, Iron Man, The Falcon and Machine Man have founded the Future Foundation to try to defend the world from any interdimensional anomaly that could threaten the world once again. However, the menaces could prove to be much more dangerous than what they initially imagined, are they able to face them or will they need the assistance of an old foe?
This is the beginning of a new volume based on the Ultimate Fantastic Four franchise that follows the same path that the series took in the regular Marvel universe. This time is handled by Joshua Hale Fialkov who was responsible of writing a huge part of the Ultimate universe before the Cataclysm event so how does he fare at handling this new volume?
I would say that he does a good job, at least for the most part. The most obvious aspect that you may note in this issue is the dialogue which is quite sharp and witty, Fialkov certainly does a good job at making the characters express themselves while demonstrating their personality and motivations, even the plot exposition doesn't seem forced, this is quite well crafted chapter in that regard.
However, I don't feel like the plot has moved that much. This issue set the potential of the FF but we still don't know much about the main story, hopefully the following chapter will solve this.
Marcio Guevara and Tom Grummet provide the pencils and while solid, I don't consider them that impressive. There's a huge sense of depth on the artwork but not enough polish, at times it looked a bit rushed.
Still, I must say that this is so far my favorite title in the Ultimate so far, it definitely works.
