There are New Avengers in town.
Sunspot is leading a new team of experienced heroes to deal with a group of strange beings that could cause destruction everywhere and they might not be enough for the mission.
This series pretty much came out of nowhere for me but since I've enjoyed Al Ewing's work in the past I wanted to try it. So, what did I think?
Eh, it's okay I guess?
The author focuses on a group that consists of heroes from different teams like Hulkling and Wiccan from the Young Avengers, White Tiger and Power Man from the Mighty Avengers, Hawkeye and other random characters like Songbird, Sunspot and Squirrel Girl.
The problem is that there doesn't seem to be a reason for these characters to form a team and the info that we get from the book is not enough to justify their role and mission, is pretty much yet another Avengers team without a clear purpose.
The characterization is solid with the cast acting like you would expect. There are some shining aspects like Sunspot's portrayal and Ewing's witty dialogue makes the conversations funny but other than that there's not a lot to see in terms of portrayals. The villain seems enjoyable enough but not interesting enough.
Gerardo Sandoval is in charge of the pencils and his work has a certain style that makes some of the character models look a bit awkward and lacking clarity. It's not bad but not exactly great.
Not really a promising beginning quite frankly. I don't think I will try the next one sadly.
