New perspectives from classic heroes.
What made Dick Grayson the man he is now? What is Animal Man's place in history? What are the early days of Katana?
You're not going to believe this.
The first section focuses on Grayson by writer of the ongoing, Tim Seeley. Sadly, this is mostly a recap of some of the events that have happened over the course of the character's life and doesn't offer much insight about him besides that. There are some sub-plots about how Helena is going to end-up killing him if betrays Spyral but other than that, nothing really shocking. Stephen Mooney handles the artwork and his work is pretty appropriate for the style of the main series.
The second segment belongs to Animal Man handled by the writer of his last series, Jeff Lemire. Once again, this is a recap that doesn't offer much surprises aside from Buddy finally receiving his well-deserved recognition at the end. Pencils are delivered by Travel Foreman who obviously has a history with the character and manages to create excellent scenes.
The third part is concentrated on Katana by Ann Nocenti and is shockingly the most successful of three (Seriously!). Nocenti focuses on a new tale where Katana starts remembering her childhood as well as facing a new enemy in an unique way. Roger Robinson provides the artwork and his style is clean, detailed and beautiful, probably my favorite here.
You might hate me for this but I liked Nocenti's story the most, followed by Lemire's and Seeley on third. Decent issue overall.
