The universe of the Earth Mightiest Mortal is in danger.
Doctor Sivana has been able to contact with each one of his different version around the multiverse and all of them want the same, destroy Captain Marvel. Billy Batson will need to use both his powers and intelligence to try to defeat the menace of his multiple archenemies.
Yet another chapter of Multiversity that I was highly anticipating. Since it was announced, Thunderworld was promised to be the ultimate Captain Marvel story written by Grant Morrison. So, does it deliver on that promise.
I would say yeah, is not the most impressive story from this series but still pretty nice.
Morrison brings back the classic Captain Marvel as well as his universe. Billy Batson is once again, the gentle and kind kid who works as a reporter at Whiz while still using his alter ego to defend Fawcett City from all the strange events that happen in that place.
The rest of the Marvel family returns as Captain Marvel Jr., Mary Marvel
and even the Liutenant Marvels (A.K.A. Tall Marvel, Hill Marvel and Fat
Marvel) accompanied by Uncle Marvel and Tawky Tawny. It was great to see all those personalities come back again.
Sivana is presented as an interesting but sometimes silly threat. One that is pretty shallow even for mad scientists standards, that might have been the intent but having a villain whose motivations are so hollow make his presence a bit hard to take seriously. His children are equally as simple sadly. Nonetheless, it was nice to see different concepts like the Monster Society of Evil again.
About the multiverse aspect of the series, this works as a pretty stand-alone issue but it also has connections to the main plot. Is probably one of the most straightforward chapters from this event.
Cameron Stewart is on art duties and he does a magnificent job at capturing the classic Captain Marvel style with every character having a kinda old school look. The storytelling works wonderfully too.
Solid issue. Again, it might not be the most mindblowing but it was entertaining definitely.
