The stories of both the Green Lanterns and the Red Lanterns are intertwining this time.
Supergirl has been chosen as one of the replacements of a fallen Red Lantern just when Hal is having one of his hardest times as leader of the Corps and Guy is trying to rekindle his relationship with Ice. None of those aspects can end well.
First things first, you need to buy this issue, the content alone makes it worthy, I mean this is two usual issues for the price of one! And that price is $2.99! On a time where $3.99 for 20 pages is becoming the norm how can you turn down this?
Now, let's talk about the story. Robert Venditti focuses on the Green Lantern segments of the issue of course, and I really enjoy his way of developing the main plot of the current war along with some sub-plots like Saint Walker's future and the place of the Corps in sector 2814 now that it belongs to the Red Lanterns.
Is just a well handled story that also features a nice roster of other members of the organization, Vath, Mogo and a lot more share the spotlight this time and Venditti is able to show their personalities satisfactorily.
Plus, Billy Tan's art has seriously improved since the last time we saw him. The character designs as well as the settings look much more refined and have a lot more depth put into them.
The second segment goes to Charles Soule' Red Lanterns and while Venditti focuses on the bigger plot-points, Soule concentrates on the most personal ones. As usual, Soule's strenghts resides on the team dynamics, dialogue and characterization and every member of the cast delivers at least an interesting moment. Plus, moments like the relationship between Guy and Ice, the friendly discussion between Guy and Hal and the semi-romantic segment between Rankorr and Bleez are just too good.
Speaking of artists that have improved a lot lately, Alessandro Vitti is definitely one of them. His characters also look much more polished with a lot of thought put onto them.
Seriously guys, buy this issue, is excellent. You will be getting your money worth more than in any other issue this month.
