Some thoughts about Aquaman #28

Aquaman will soon learn that Atlantis is no longer as unique as it used to be.

While trying to save a man's life Arthur learns that Doctor Shin has been working on Triton Base, a research center with a close resemblance to Atlantis where they're conducting some strange investigations based on the civilization. However, Arthur's concerns may be focused in something even worse: Amnesty's High School Reunion.

Jeff Parker is on his third issue by now and while I think he's doing a solid job so far, there are a few problems. Let's start with the positives, the character work is pretty strong, the conversations between Mera and him is pretty natural and the way how Parker explains his origins while also depicting the relationship with the people he grew up with is quite good too, I feel like Arthur is showing some strong aspects of his personality in this.

However, I don't think that plot is progressing as fast as it should be. The issue was mostly devoted to Arthur's interaction with his High School friends and the main story was barely touched, it would have been okay to have an issue focusing on who he is later but right now I believe is more important to know what are the stakes and the true menace behind all of this.

Paul Pelletier is back on pencils for the whole issue and boy did I miss him. His art continues to work incredibly well in terms of storytelling and beauty.

Anyway, is it a good issue? Yes. Still, I hope we start getting some revelations soon.
