Some thoughts about Spider-Man #2

Miles Morales will need to prove that he's worthy of being called Spider-Man.

Being in a new universe means that Miles will have to adapt to its own rules and Peter Parker is there to remind him what are the most important.

This series goes on and is once again more entertaining that I was expecting.

Brian Bendis brings a new chapter where he continues the cliffhanger he left in the last one with Peter facing Miles. The interaction between both characters is quite on-point and makes a lot of sense considering that Peter receives a lot of the blame for things that are out of his control but ultimately understands that Miles is here to do good. This kind of moments allow for a lot of characterization and the dialogue certainly gets the best of it.

However, the best part for me is how this series delivers a social commentary about how Miles' race is not really important for him, he just wants to be the best person he can. That's something quite distinctive to hear these days and really resonated to me since I feel like a lot of people are so fixated in those aspects that actually forget that what matters are the characters themselves and how engaging they can be.

I'm not so much of a fan about how one of Miles' relatives speak in Spanglish but that's a personal nitpick.

Sara Pichelli still handles the art and it remains great with beautiful and expressive characters and huge action scenes. I especially liked how she changed her style for one of the flashbacks.

Satisfying issue, definitely invested now.
