Gotham City needs Batman but it might not be for the reasons most people think.
Bruce is back in the mantle and he's ready to face the threat of Mr. Bloom once for all. However, this is still Jim Gordon's battle.
This storyline finally concludes in this anniversary issue and Scott Snyder manages to get the best of it for the most part.
The writer brings an action packed chapter where he focuses on the return of Bruce Wayne as Batman and what he means for the rest of the people of Gotham City. Is necessary to mention that this is Snyder's own vision obviously and is centered on everything that he has been building during his run so while it might not be everyone's cup of tea, at least is consistent. I don't personally love it but I think it has certain accurate aspects.
It was good to know that despite of how important Bruce's return was originally hyped, Snyder still emphasizes that this has been Jim Gordon's story all along and Mr. Bloom is the enemy that he needs to face by himself so this also brings a satisfying conclusion for this arc.
Greg Capullo handles the artwork and is as good looking as you would expect with great storytelling and beautiful and grotesque characters. The Batsuit re-design is not one of my favorites but is still looks solid enough.
There's an epilogue focusing on the relationship between Batman and Gordon that manages to bring closure to this era while being on-point with their history. Yanique Paquette is in charge of the pencils here and is definitely beautiful.
Worthy oversized installment I would say, not many complaints.
