The final fight between Superman and Vandal Savage is finally here.
Clark has recovered his powers and he's ready to make Savage pay for his actions. However, Savage might have more in common with him than he ever imagined.
I suppose this is the end of the crossover and in that sense, it has both its good and bad aspects.
For one, Gene Luen Yang brings a chapter where he developes a bit more of Savage's background as well as his connection with Clark and how Krypton's history makes them very similar. There are some explorations about different realities and some of them prove to be interesting. Savage referencing his time with the Demon Knights was pretty cool and is good to know that is still in continuity. Finally, Yang offers some classic Superman moments by showing the kind of person he is and what he stands for.
On the other hand, the whole crossover disminishes a lot of these things. I find Savage's plan unnecessarily complicated to the point that it starts to sound pretty stupid, even the way how he tries to convince Clark to help him is quite contrived. He's also defeated pretty easily and in an unsatisfying manner.
Howard Porter, Patrick Zircher, Ardian Syaf and Jon Bogdanove share the pencils here and they work nicely in their respective sections and since they work in different realities and times it doesn't look as disjointed.
Some things to like, some things to dislike. Pretty much summarizes Yang's tenure in the title.
