Spider-Man is in another universe and his problems are just about to start.
Miles is too busy with his superhero job to handle usual things that teenagers do like dating or going to school. However, the threats keep increasing and he will have to face them no matter the consequences.
This issue marks yet another relaunch for the character's title. Since his introduction in Ultimate Spider-Man, Miles Morales has quickly become a fan-favorite character who has been able to sustain his own book for a while and now he finds himself in the main Marvel universe handled once again by his creators Brian Bendis and Sara Pichelli. So, how this issue fares?
I would say pretty well. Is a really good title by itself but I'm not sure it works so well for new readers.
For one, Miles is presented as a quite typical teenage straight boy who mostly wants to make out with girls so that makes him automatically understandable and relatable, this kind of life contrast in a pretty classic way with his superhero one and for Spider-Man's standards is nicely done.
The dialogue works pretty well and I will give this to Bendis, he can write pretty good narration when he doesn't go overboard with his own ticks. Miles' voice is pretty entertaining and makes you like the character instantly. The story itself is not particularly impressive but it works in a decent way.
But here comes the problem. Is not really accesible for new readers due that it doesn't present a real explanation about why this character is in the Marvel universe. Sure, this was explained in other books before this but I think they should have done a better job for people who want to learn more about Miles.
Pichelli's artwork is simply gorgeous with beautiful and expressive characters, strong storytelling, interesting layouts and powerful action scenes. Just perfect.
So yeah, is pretty entertaining aside from some minor problems. Definitely recommended.
