Aquaman will need to remind the world that they don't need to be afraid of him.
After the last attack on the surface, Atlantis is even more feared than ever but Arthur knows that his people need to start behaving like the rest of the planet if they want to maintain peace.
This issue marks the beginning of a new run handled by Dan Abnett. On the contrary from Cullen Bunn's last run, Abnett is going for a more traditional take on the characters. How does it fare?
Pretty solidly I would say.
For one, Abnett definitely knows these characters and what they represent. The writer references a lot of Arthur's past including the relationship between his parents, his long-romantic relationship with Mera and his constant mission of trying to watch both the surface and what's underneath. Everything seems on-point.
Not only that but the writer is creating a lot of enjoyable scenes with the rest of the cast like how Garth, Tula and Murk going to a festival and learning more about their culture. Is a pretty well-executed segment that delivers a lot of fun.
Plus, there's a mystery going on to give more weight to the story.
Vicente Cifuentes handles the artwork and his style is pretty appealing with good-looking and expressive characters and solid storytelling.
Definitely promising and I'm sincerely loving Mera's new look.
