The Secret Six are about to face new challenges.
Batgirl has just arrived to their neighborhood and she's ready to take Catman. Meanwhile, Strix is not ready to let her past go and will have to face one of the strongest persons in the world.
Okay, this was all over the place.
Gail Simone delivers a new chapter where she puts one of her pet characters, Barbara Gordon, into the spotlight. This is not something bad per se since this is pretty much expected whenever a character makes a cameo into the book. The problem is the characterization here, Batgirl is portrayed as an overly competent fighter who is able to rival Catman in terms of fighting skills which, if you follow her own series, is completely bonkers. To quote Simone herself: "She's good, but not that good" (if this was Black Canary we're talking about I would totally buy it but Babs? Nah).
Then again, this is a common problem that I have with Simone's portrayal of Batgirl. She always depicted her as either too good (by making all the other characters either incompetent or dumb) or too weak (which happened whenever she had a flashback of The Killing Joke and went into angst mode). These are two extremes I'm not particularly fond of and I don't even think that Simone is being consistent with herself based on the dialogue, speaking of which, is pretty awkward with random phrases like "handsome" and "selfie" appearing out of nowhere.
The rest of the issue is not so bad and the cast is portrayed as likable for the most part.
Dale Eaglesham and Tom Derenick share the pencils here and their work is consistent for the most part with Eaglesham's work being strongest as usual due to his good looking characters.
But yeah, this was not a really good issue. This series is pretty inconsistent.
