Some thoughts about New Suicide Squad #17

The Suicide Squad is back but for how long?

Amanda Waller still believes that her team is the best solution to handle the most dangerous threats in the world. However, the next menace that they face could be the last.

This issue marks the arrival of new writer Tim Seeley on the title who you may know from series like Grayson. How does it fare?

Solidly I would say.

For one, Seeley focuses on the classic direction of the team: Using supervillains to deal with the threats that no superhero can handle. The story is promising enough with new organizations and cultures being introduced which certainly gives it the kind of vibe that John Ostrander tried to represent when he created the team.

The characterization is pretty precise with the whole cast being on-point thankfully. Deadshot is still concened about dying in a spectacular way, Harley is still lovely crazy. Plus, we see the return of some old favorites like El Diablo and Cheetah whose portrayals here were pretty compelling.

Juan Ferreyra is in charge of the artwork and is pretty solid with expressive characters and distinctive storytelling with some creative layouts.

Definitely one of the best chapter from this series in a while. Good start.
