Some thoughts about Legends of Tomorrow #5

The Legend is about to end.

Firestorm's final fight against Multiplex is about to begin. Metamorpho's life is in peril. Sugar and Spike will reminisce their first case. The Metal Men have just met their match.

The old-school stories continue and they're still pretty enjoyable for the most part.

Gerry Conway's Firestorm segment is solid with good character work all-around and also a pretty interesting take on the villain Multiplex. The best part of this segment is the character dynamic, is pretty enjoyable and natural. Eduardo Pansica's artwork is okay but not as strong as previous offering since the storytelling can be a bit off and the faces look awkward at times.

Metamorpho's story written by Aaron Lopresti remains as the weakest due to some predictable moments in during the plot as well as awkward narration with some characters starting to talk to themselves suddenly. Is not awful though just quite unimpressive. Lopresti's artwork is solid but again, I have seen him done better before, it looks a bit rough here.

And guess what? Sugar and Spike by Keith Giffen is still the most entertaining part of the book with a silly yet compelling story about their first case fighting The Flash's villain Colonel Computron and how they gained their reputation as the investigators who handle cases the superheroes don't want. The dynamic between the protagonists simply sells this tale. Bilquis Evely's pencils continue to shine by depicting each character here beautifully with a lot of expressions and personality.

Len Wein delivers the final section focusing on the Metal Men and is still pretty enjoyable with him expanding on the characters' universe by creating another team of Metal Men along with reintroducing Copper to the DCU and I will be forever thankful for it. The story and action flow nicely as well. Yildiray Cinar's art is quite strong and definitely the best in this book from a pure superhero style perspective.

Overall, I enjoyed Sugar and Spike the most followed by Metal Men, Firestorm and Metamorpho in that order. No surprise there.
