Green Arrow's challenges are about to increase.
Oliver's life is getting more and more complicated due to the fact that he's now Emiko's guardian and will have to give a good example to her by leading his own company. However, his problems will become even worse once that a psycho starts going on a killing spree.
This issue marks the beginning of a new run brought by acclaime novelist Ben Percy and fan-favorite penciller Patrick Zircher, how does it fares?
Well, let's focus on the positives first as usual okay?
The writing itself is solid. Percy concentrates on a mystery that at its core it's not a mystery at all since we already know who the culprit is but is one that continues to escalate and present some interesting moments from both plot and characterization.
The problem is that, despite that I said that the writing itself was not the problem, the author tends to focus on constant metaphors that not really seem that natural and I unfortunately would dare to call them pretentious at times. This complaint also includes some scenes where the writer tries to go profound but they seem pretty out of place.
Also, we don't know what are the motivations of the killer yet and we didn't have an encounter between Green Arrow and him. There's not a lot of plot progression.
In terms of the artwork on the other hand, this is sublime. Patrick Zircher manages to make every scene great with wonderful storytelling and beautifully gothic style that certainly fits the tone of the story.
This a decent beginning as a whole I would say but I hope the writer stops taking things so seriously.
