The Justice League of America will have to deal with one of the biggest threats they have ever faced.
Someone has been summoning the members from the team and Superman is the most affected by it due that it seems like a being has been killing him all over the different dimensions. Soon he will learn that this could be even worse than he imagined.
This issue not only marks the beginning of a new JLA volume but also the return of artist Bryan Hitch to DC. Hitch has been famous for his "widescreen" style that creates a huge cinematic feel to any story he works on, some of his biggest projects include The Autorithy, The Ultimates and JLA itself. So, after all the hype of his arrival, does this issue delivers?
Eh, not really, at least not on that level.
The plot itself is fine enough with an interesting conflict for the heroes. The problem is that the most interesting threat they have to face just appears at the end, until that point they have to face the Parasite who sadly is not that much of an interesting character although some of the members of the JLA are surprisingly losing against him.
And here is where my real complaint resides, this has really bad characterization. Every member from the team is an idiot and don't seem to use their powers properly until it's too late, in fact, the only competent member from the group is, predictably, Batman who needs to guide the rest of the characters to do things that they should supposedly already know how to do.
Even Superman seems more violent than usual. The New 52 version is more prompt to punch things but is not a complete bully who threatens to beat people every five minutes, the portrayal is simply off.
About the artwork, Hitch's style is fine but I feel like his art is not as good as it used to be. The big scenes look good enough but the character models seem awkward at times.
Overall, for an oversized issue, this doesn't really offer a lot of content and frankly I don't think is worth your time. Mediocre to be honest.
