The future of the nation depends on social media.
The government is tired of having unpopular candidates and being outdated with their choices so now they will allow the different people from the internet to compete for the role of President. However, even if they find the right choice things could get even more complicated.
I must say that this has been one of my most anticipated titles for a while. The premise about a teenage girl who is elected President by Twitter votes was something quite intriguing for me, so based on that concept does this issue delivers?
For the most part it does but there some things that I didn't particularly like.
The style is quite strong, Mark Russell brings a pretty modern feel that will certainly connect to a lot of people since it represents a lot of current trends being either internet, social media and how nobody sees TV anymore, it even has a reference to Anonymous with the V for Vendetta mask and everything.
The humour is well-done with several references to different topics being either young people, popularity or politics while laughing at how incompetent the government can be. It's quite engaging in those aspects.
The problem is that I sometimes feel like it tries too hard to be trendy, it all seems over the top and it might be the author's intention but at times it feels kinda forced. As I said, the style is strong but sometimes can be too strong.
Ben Caldwell is on art duties and his work is surprisingly good, able to capture the best from the script and depict the different concepts that the author wants to show perfectly with an unique tone.
So, I still enjoyed but I hope the following issues polish some of those aspects.
