There's a new Batman in Gotham City but even him has doubts about this.
Jim Gordon has been chosen as the new Dark Knight for particular reason and nobody is more appropriate for the job. Now, he will need to prove that their beliefs are true.
The first chapter from this new direction. Despite that I didn't enjoy the storyarc Endgame, I was pretty excited for this storyline due that I love the character of Jim Gordon and the idea of him being Batman was intriguing, so does this issue sells such premise?
I would say yeah at the very least.
Scott Snyder does his best to make the Gordon his usual self despite that he needs to represent the Bat-symbol and what you have here is probably the most human Batman you have seen since the days of Dick Grayson in the mantle. The characterization is solid and it certainly makes you root for the protagonist's success.
This issue is not without problems though since it can get a bit heavyhanded with its own concept by repeating how Gordon as Batman making no sense whatsoever and even insulting him at times. The dialogue can also get a bit blunt too.
Nonetheless, there's a lot of fun to have thanks to some of the humour of action so that previous complaint doesn't really ruin the chapter.
Greg Capullo continues to shine in art duties with great storytelling and style. There's a scene with particular where he references previous Batman costumes and it's just hilarious. Plus, there's yet another suit that Gordon is wearing and it looks pretty great.
So overall, this is a solid beginning and it certainly makes me want to see more. Good job.
