The Green Lanterns are lost and there might be no chance of surviving.
John Stewart and his team are currently in a pretty strange and dangerous situation and they don't know who is the culprit in the first place. Although, there's a big suspicion that recently arrived Krona might be involved.
This the beginning of a new series from the Green Lantern line of books that sadly replaces the pretty entertaining New Guardians, Green Lantern Corps and Red Lanterns. So, is writer Cullen Bunn able to compensate the loss of those series with a competent and creative story?
Of course he isn't.
Sorry if I sound a bit blunt here but frankly this issue doesn't really present anything special writing-wise which is sadly something pretty common in Bunn's recent work. The characterization is okay, the ideas are okay, the team dynamics are okay, the story okay, everything is just freaking OKAY. There's nothing remarkable here.
Although I must say that the characterization might actually be a step down from previous series. While author Van Jensen focused on the interesting architect aspect of John Stewart, Cullen Bunn concentrates on the more boring and sadly overused soldier one which really doesn't present many interesting insights about John's character.
Plus, the author seems to believe that Krona is the only scientist of the team without considering that Kilowog is also one. Not even the arrival of a classic GL character saves this book from being off.
Jesus Saiz is the best part of the issue definitely, his work is stunning and creates both beautiful characters and perfect storytelling. I just wish he had better material to work with.
Mediocre isssue, don't bother with it I'm warning you.
