Some thoughts about Wacky Raceland #1

Welcome to the wackiest world you have ever seen.

In a post-apocaliptic world where people need to participate in races to survive, Penelope is one of the best but now she will be forced to play along with one of her worst enemies to keep going.

Here we have another Hanna Barbera reinvention people and while this seems like a pretty creative take, at times it feels kinda off.

Ken Pontac is in charge of reinventing the classic cartoon Wacky Races in a more Mad Max-like environment and style where classic characters receive a pretty extreme makeover to fit into this particular universe.

Oh but when I say "extreme" I mean EXTREME! The characters change so much that at times is kinda difficult to tell who is who from the old cartoon. I mean, I recognize Penelope, Dick Dastardly and Muttley but the rest of the cast is more ambiguous, there are really weird redesigns which hold very little resemblance to the originals.

There are some creative ideas here and there with an interesting set-up but at times it seems a bit off. I remember when Scooby Apocalypse was announced and some people were complaining about how it looked almost like a 90's reinvention due to how hard it was trying to be grim and gritty which, once that you read that title, you realize is a wrong assumption. Wacky Raceland on the other hand, fits that summary much better, at points it seems like the premise is trying too hard.

Leonardo Manco's artwork doesn't make things better to contradict that argument due that his style is pretty dark with a storytelling that can be a bit messy, is kinda difficult to tell what's going on. It doesn't look bad but is not that great either.

I consider this interesting overall but some things rubbed me the wrong way.
