Can Superman trust his own son?
Jon is just learning to use his powers and sadly he will commit some mistakes with them. However, he will have no choice but learn faster once that a great danger arrives.
Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason's run officially begins here. You see, I had some complaints about Tomasi's recent work in general due to the lack of subtext and awkward dialogue but he always seem at his best when he works along with Gleason thanks to his great storytelling. So, does this issue succeed in that regard.
I would say so far so good.
The story is focused mostly on Jon and how he can barely control his powers. The characterization is pretty solid with Jon's reaction being pretty realistic after causing more damage when he was trying to help. The dynamic between Jon and Clark is also pretty enjoyable and something that is usually one of Tomasi's best aspects which is reminiscent to his early work in Batman and Robin (which was pretty enjoyable).
The writers also introduce a new character who will most likely have yet another interesting dynamic with Jon. The writers seem to be preparing him for his bigger role in the DCU and in the upcoming series Super Sons.
Gleason's artwork is fantastic and easily one of the best things about this story. The storytelling is perfect and the style is powerful, detailed and beautiful.
Solid beginning overall, hope the following issues continue this way.
