Green Arrow is ready to defend Seattle no matter what Black Canary thinks.
Oliver and Dinah need to save the people from the city but they have their own opinions about how to do it. However, they will have to work together once that a mysterious organization strikes.
Well, I suppose this is the proper beginning for this series and for that matter, it still suffers from the same problems from the Rebirth issue.
For one, Ben Percy can't write natural dialogue to save his life. There are tons of awkward lines like Ollie and Dinah presenting themselves to the enemy in a way that is quite unrealistic to Emiko making a comment about objectification that is as blunt and impossible as you would expect from the writer and is only made so people with a similar mentality could praise it for the mere fact of referencing it and finally the usual overwritten interaction between the characters that doesn't leave a lot to the imagination.
I have some problems with the characterization as well. Oliver is written much better than in Percy's early work by showing how he's able to help people with his fortune but he is still pretty dumb at points by not realizing that a guy who has been working with him, a guy who was culprit of the racist robots from the first arc, is actually *gasp* EVIL! At points Ollie is too gullible for his own good. Dinah is not portrayed much better since her constant conflict with Ollie about how he handles things with money seems pretty forced and I'm starting to fear that Percy will ultimately favor her side instead of creating a balanced view because that's the kind of sociocommentary that he makes.
Again, THAT BEING SAID, this is still not so bad, at least not compared to the early run. However, I often feel like this is mostly because we're comparing to a completely horrible work. The dialogue is heavyhanded and unbelievable, the sociocommentary is as blunt and dumb as a rock, the villains are a blatant ripoff of the Court of Owls (Seriously when Percy was saying that he was going to make his own CoO I thought he was going to be inspired by them, not simply putting them in the book).
Really, I feel this issue is MASSIVELY helped by Otto Schmidt's artwork which is fantastic with a precise storytelling skill that makes the script way better than it actually is.
Still not as bad but we can do better people.
