Some thoughts about Batgirl #35

Batgirl's new life might bring her more problems that she could imagine.

After a wild night, Barbara has lost her laptop as well as all the info that mattered to her. Now with the help of her new friends, she will need to find the culprit and she will learn that there are people with the same abilities as her.

The beginning of a new era for Batgirl. Is no secret that I wasn't exactly a fan of Gail Simone's run in the title due to the extremely dark direction it had as well as the uneven execution. That's the reason why the current issue is so important to me, this chapter marks the start of a much more lighthearted and creative take on the character brought by a new creative team which also bring lots of possibilities to the table. So, does this installment deliver on its promise?

Most definitely I'm happy to say.

Cameron Stewart and Brenden Fletcher offer a quite interesting and unique personality for Batgirl. Long gone are the crazy and creepy murderers from the previous run and we're presented to much more, let's say, common problems for her but they quickly escalate into something bigger which transform into a quite good encounter between Babs and one of her opposites.

The characterization is also worth noticing. Barbara has now a much more realistic personality and voice for someone her age and it makes her incredibly understandable and likable, she can still commits mistake but is pretty much what you would expect from a young girl. The side-characters is pretty good and is nice to know that diversity is still remains in this book. Oh, and Black Canary, she was great here and her interactions with Barbara are probably some of the best I've seen and create a whole new dynamic for their relationship.

But of course, this wouldn't have been possible without Babs Tarr's beautiful and distinctive artwork. Her style is something that you don't usually see in DC Comics and gives tons of personality to all the characters and scenarios, especially the ones focusing on Barbara's memories. Not to mention that all the members from the cast look gorgeous.

Overall, one of the best reads from this week and you shouldn't miss it.
