Some thoughts about Klarion #1

Klarion the Witch Boy is back and he could be more dangerous than ever.

Raised as a kid who can't recognize between right or wrong, Klarion is decided to keep expanding his abilties no matter what even if that means that he will get both allies and enemies over the road.

The first issue of this new series handled by Ann Nocenti. This is no secret, Nocenti's writing is not for everyone, her style can be pretty irrational and awkward while her execution tends to be quite uneven. So does this issue delivers a different effort from her?

Nope! Is pretty much what you would expect.

Nocenti's creates a story where Klarion wants to keep learning about his skills and becoming more powerful during the journey where he will meet a lot of unique characters. There are some good points here actually, there are certainly a pretty diverse cast that is being introduced and all of them have a different personality. Not to mention, that the antagonist is also presented in an interesting way.

Plus, despite what people might think about Nocenti's writing, one has to admit that her voice is certainly distinctive and it creates a different atmosphere from your usual books.

The problem remains in the execution as is usual for her work. The pacing is all over the place with the plot jumping from point to point without good transitions, the cliffhangers are also pretty weak as you may have guessed.

Trevor McCarthy is on art duties and his work is the best aspect from this book. All of the scenes are depicted beautifully and are quite creative, the thing is that this just makes more obvious how weird Nocenti's writing is since it makes the scenes hard to follow.

Yep! Not really a promising issue. Check in another place please.
