Some thoughts about Catwoman #35

Catwoman is about to enter into a new world.

Selina has become one of the crime bosses in Gotham City and she's ready to make some changes no matter the kind of enemies she could create nor the allies she could reject.

This issue marks the beginning of a new run handled by author Genevieve Valentine focusing on the direction that was created in Batman Eternal for Selina Kyle about her taking a more important role in Gotham. Is this new direction actually a compelling one?

Well, so far I would say so.

For one, the writing is quite polished and focused. It has a lot of narration but it creates an interesting atmosphere that helps set the current situation that is happening in Selina's life as well as represent the different factors and characters that interfere.

It also delivers a really good characterization for the protagonist. Selina is now a much more serious character than in the previous run, not to mention more calculating, who has been given a bigger status. This route actually presents a good opportunity for her progression as lons as it keeps being well-executed.

The art is brought by Garry Brown and his work is a great suit for this kind of story. The tone is much darker and expressive which makes the more serious moments even better.

Satisfactory issue I would say. I'm intrigued already.
