Some thoughts about Deathstroke #1

Nothing can stop Deathstroke the Terminator from coming back.

After a recent encounter with one his lovers, Slade will be betrayed and persecuted by people who want him and not even his healing factor mght be able to save him this time.

The beginning of the relaunched series focusing on the greatest mercenary of the DCU, this time written and drawn by Tony Daniel who usually works just as an artist. Does he have a good vision for the title?

Er, I have really mixed thoughts about this one.

For one, it doesn't read terribly. It's really narration-heavy but it doesn't feel that saturated by it, the dialogue is decent just as the pacing.

The problem seems to be Slade's characterization. Tony Daniel doesn't seem to be able to get a good handle on Slade's voice, considering how serious the character is I don't see him saying one-liners as he did here. Plus, he seemed a bit weaker and more incompetent than what you would expect from him.

It's pretty light in terms of story too and I don't exactly know what happened in the last page.

The art is gorgeous though. Daniel knows how to create good action scenes and his characters look beautiful most of the time.

Yep, not exactly the best starting point for this series.
