Some thoughts about Suicide Squad's Most Wanted: Deadshot and Katana #1

What makes both Deadshot and Katana the most wanted?

Deadshot and a new partner are on a new mission that could get more personal than expected. Meanwhile Katana might have an even more difficult mission at hand once that she's forced to face Kobra.

The beginning of a new miniseries based on the two characters that are bound to become more popular due to the upcoming Suicide Squad movie. How does this issue fares?

Eh, some things work, others don't.

The first story written by Brian Buccellato shows the perspective of Floyd Lawton and how he handles his work in the Suicide Squad without fearing his own death. Mind you, this is not a particularly on-point characterization since Floyd is supposed to have a death wish which means that he actually wants to die but is not something that really misses the mark that much. Plus, there's also the introduction of Will Evans, a character who has a strong resemblance of Will Smith in the upcoming movie, I just hope they don't kill Floyd to make Will replace him because of the film. Finally, the issue has an interesting and promising ending that is accurate to Floyd's original characterization but it kinda comes out of nowhere.

Viktor Bogdanovic handles the artwork and is pretty good, the style is distinctive enough and the storytelling is precise.

The second story is handled by Mike W, Barr and focused on Katana. Despite of Barr's history with the character, this is mostly by the numbers and doesn't really present that much complexity in terms of characterization or plot.

Diogenes Neves is in charge of the pencils here and is good looking although is not one of his most impressive works.

Overall, is worthy because of the Deadshot story but don't expect more than that.
