Clark Kent just wants to be a normal teenager but the rest of the world don't.
A group of young criminals have came back to Smallville and are killing people everywhere. Now Clark will be forced to deal with them without even knowing the full extent of his powers.
Holy crap, I think this was even better than the last one.
Max Landis brings the second chapter of his Elseworlds story. In the first chapter, he focused on a realistic little Clark Kent and in this one, he focuses on a realistic teenager Clark Kent and what else can I say? It definitely feels real.
The situations that Clark has to face are for the most part pretty natural for people his age like talking with his crush, hanging out with his friends, drinking in secret, etc. Landis certainly has a pretty down to Earth vision for the character and for the kind of story he's going for, is definitely the most adequate. The natural dialogue truly helps to achieve this goal, is pretty authentic.
The way how Clark starts discovering the potential of his abilities is also quite logical and the result is pretty much what you would expect from someone who has no training about how to use them. However, since those things happened to very bad people, you still feel a great level of satisfaction.
Tommy Lee Edwards handles the artwork for most of the issue and his realistic style is a perfect fit for this, the characters are quite expressive and the intense moments is pretty dramatic. There's also a final page drawn by Doc Shaner focusing on pretty promising developments for the future.
Excellent issue, this is the most interesting Superman I've read in years.
