Some thoughts about Suicide Squad: Amanda Waller #1

Amanda Waller is the coldest woman in the planet but is that really true?

After suffering an accident on a plane, Amanda along with a group of soldiers and scientists will have to survive not only the cold from the place where they arrived but also the unexpected attack of superpowered beings who wants to kill them no matter what.

This is one of the one-shot issues similar to the ones that DC has realesed for Joker's Daughter and Lois Lane so how does it stand-out from them?

Well, this story written by Jim Zub focuses on Amanda Waller and her struggles to make the kind of decisions she makes and how they affect their life. It's a solid characterization overall which gives us a better insight about her personality and how she's not actually the kind of monster most people think.

However, it's ultimately a characterization that doesn't ring true to her history. I mean, we have seen every event that has involved her in the New 52 and she never showed any of these traits before and getting them revealed altogether it's a bit questionable. As I said, it gives us a better insight of her but trying to portray her in a sympathetic light is not really the best course of action considering her previous portrayals.

The story itself is solid but not particularly impressive, it had an interesting twist at the end but not one that leaves you completely surprised.

Andre Coelho handles art duties here and he does an outstanding job, his work is expressive and beautiful while depicting the scenes and setting. It's magnificent.

Anyway, this was still a solid issue but one that's not as satisfying as I expected.
