Murder World might have ended but that doesn't mean that all the problems for these kids hasn't.
The survivors or Arcade's sick game are dealing with the ramifications of their actions in the arena and most of them have changed for the worse. However, there are bigger matters at hand since Arcade is still out there and he hasn't paid for his crimes yet, can this children work together again after the traumatic events they faced?
This is the first issue of the sequel from the series Avengers Arena once again written by Dennis Hopeless. I suppose that I should talk a bit about the previous title before continuing, I thought it was a decently written series but I couldn't help to feel that the premise of young people killing themselves was way overused by that point, not to mention that it killed one of my favorite characters from the series Avengers Academy. Still, it had good characterization and interesting developments which brings us to the current book.
Overall, I think it was also a solid first issue. We get a nice glance of the surviving characters as well as how the experience transformed then, some of them like Hazmat and Death Locket follow the most logical path of progression after the events they had to endure, others like Chase not so much considering previous portrayals. Nonetheless, in terms of overall characterization I think it succeeds.
The story itself doesn't progress that much though. We know the new objective of the cast and the current direction but not so much of the promise about going undercover, hope that future chapters develope the plot mote.
Kev Walker is in charge of the artwork and his work is really competent. He's able to create nice expressions for these characters and tell the story in quite capable way, it's a really good looking book in general.
Good issue in summary, some little complaints but nothing that ruins the read.
