Some thoughts about Gotham Academy Annual #1

What's happening inside of Gotham Academy now?

Olive has been infected with a strange illness and both Pomeline and Colton have their own theories about what caused it but still neither of them are prepared for what is about to happen.

I love how nothing is actually predictable in this title.

Brenden Fletcher and Becky Cloonan dedicate this Annual to the classic supernatural direction that has been present in this title since issue 1 by focusing on several ideas that while crazy, they totally fit into the tone of the book. The idea about vampires and other monsters attacking Gotham Academy is something that strangely you would already expect from this book but what is suprising is the twist that connects them to one of the most popular mythos from the Batman franchise and puts an instant smile in your face once that you discover how all of this is related.

The character work continues to be pretty good as well with a lot of the members of the cast having their time to shine due to their personalities and/or skills. Not only that but there are hints about more aspects of their personalities that have been hidden up to this point.

Adam Archer, Msassyk, Michael Dyalinas and Chris Wildgoose share the pencils here and their work is pretty solid during their respective sections and all of them follow the same gothic tone that is so prevalent for in the title.

Good stuff without a doubt and probably one of the best stories from this series.
