Some thoughts about Red Hood and the Outlaws #1

Red Hood's new mission starts now.

The Black Mask is gaining power over Gotham City and needs someone who will follow his footsteps and he believes that Jason is the right person for the job.

This is... actually pretty good.

I'm not kidding when I say that this contains the best of Scott Lobdell in every way possible. The writer continues his story by expanding a bit the world around Jason and focusing on other characters like the Black Mask who receive a pretty interesting reinvention as a mob boss with a passion for his city and wanting to have control over it. That kind of portrayal contrast pretty nicely with Jason's due that he's constantly at odds with what he needs to do.

The dialogue works quite well, unlike most of Lobdell's work this is not really full of overexposition and there are actually some compelling lines and funny dialogue.

And we're finally seeing a bit of the rest of the team.

Dexter Soy remains in art duties and his work is still beautiful by managing to depict the environments from Gotham in the necessary dark style along with good looking characters and detailed scenarios.

Nice stuff, Lobdell better continue this way.
