Some thoughts about Constantine: The Hellblazer #4

Constantine's life continues to go to hell.

After dealing with the dead of his old friends, John can't help but remember how things went wrong in the first place and how all of it connects it to the creature he needs to face.

This is the kind of chapter that you would expect from this series already.

Ming Doyle and James Tynion IV continue their exploration of John's past and present by delivering yet another part in his life where he enjoyed himself completely and everyone had to pay the consequences. It's pretty typical Constantine stuff about how his own personality and choices are bad for him and his close ones which quite frankly doesn't present any surprises whatsoever.

Oh and CONSTANTINE IS TOTALLY BI DUDE! DID YOU NOTICE?!

Yeah, since issue 1 the writing hasn't been particularly subtle about the subject of John's sexuality since we have seen him flirting like a schoolgirl/boy with a crush on a handsome stranger and now he's complimenting even security guards while being drunk.

I root for Bisexual characters but I wish that they would be represented in a more realistic ways. Hell, I think that even Harley Quinn represents Bisexuality better and that's a COMEDIC BOOK ABOUT A CLOWN GIRL! Midnigther also does a better job at representing love for men since the actions of the character complement his personality and story, Going a bit further, the previous Constantine series written by Ray Fawkes did a more subtle job with the topic.

Here, John simply sounds silly and out of style while I always pictured him as a more suave and charismatic guy. Not a fan of this characterization so far.

Vanessa del Rey and Chris Visions share the pencils this time and their work is really distinctive with some interesting storytelling techniques and creative layouts.

Yeah, still not impressed with this book. Hope that things start going into a different route soon.
