Some thoughts about All-Star Batman #13

Who is the first ally?

Bruce is doing his best to protect Alfred and the latter must remember what and who put them both in this situation just at the most crucial moment.

The story is shaping up nicely towards its conclusion.

Scott Snyder is about to conclude this storyarc and book by finally revealing the major villain as well as how he is connected to the theme of the story. This makes you realize how important Alfred has been, not only in this book, but in Snyder's Batman work as a whole, the connection between Bruce and him is palpable, both share so many similarities in their personalities and histories which creates a great emotional relationship and accurate characterization. The twist close to the last pages is also quite interesting.

This wouldn's be Snyder's work if he at least delivered the classic cinematic action and this issue brings a few scenes based on it that complement the more personal moments nicely.

Rafael Albuquerque handles the artwork and is quite fitting thanks to his dark style and precise storytelling.

There's a second segment written by Albuquerque himself along with Rafael Scavone which is a decent yet unremarkable story that suffers from a bit of heavyhanded dialogue. Sebastian Fiumara's artwork is pretty appropriate for a Batman book though.

Enjoyable overall, let's hope for a solid ending.
