The scientists who gave Kenan Kong superpowers are planning to create their own Justice League but Kenan will have more problems than expected if he wants to get along with Batman and Wonder Woman.
Jesus Christ, Kenan can be such an insufferable douchebag at times.
I understand the premise that Gene Luen Yang is going for, creating an unlikable protagonist that will slowly develope into his own kind of hero. The problem with that premise is that Kenan is immensily ANNOYING, not only to the rest of the cast but also to the readers. He constantly tries to make jokes that are not really funny and at the same time ridiculizes his allies, particularly Batman who is overweight. Again, this could have been better executed if Yang wouldn't have made Kenan such an important part of the story but by being in the spotlight, one can't help but getting tired and irritated of his constant, constant stupidity.
The narration is not the best either since at times it can be pretty overwritten telling more than it should. This also affects dialogue, especially Kenan's who becomes even more annoying.
There are some good things like acknowledging the existence of the Great Ten as the syperheroes of China and it seems like Yang does want to make Kenan more sympatethic but again, a tragic backstory doesn't make a character more complex, especially one that is so obnoxious.
Viktor Bogdanovic handles the artwork and is still gorgeous with a pretty distinctive and vibrant style that creates beautiful and expressive characters.
Other than that, I don't know if I'm going to continue with this. Simply don't like this character.
