Universes are about to be destroyed and only the power of comic books can save it.
The different superheroes from the Multiverse have been connected by a whole medium and know they need to unite forces to destroy one of the most dangerous threat that they have faced but even then, they could even worse things in the future.
The long-awaited finale for one of the best events in recent history is here, Grant Morrison has created a quite inventive and compelling read through most of the chapters from this story that has finally taken us to this point. So, does it delivers?
Well, let's focus on what works.
As usual, Morrison's work shines when he tries to concentrate on the different creations that he delivers like the variety of superheroes from multiple dimensions he has created and there are some pretty interesting takes on familiar faces (I'm still smiling about "Adam Familiar", a Bizarro version of Adam Strange). The imagination is right on point.
As a CONCLUSION though, this doesn't work as well. Let's just say this, the final threat that has been building-up to this point is destroyed rather easily and mostly serves the purpose of the arrival of a new menace and the formation of a new team to fight it. Really, this has happened before in Morrison's work with Final Crisis and I'm sad that he hasn't learned his lesson.
Not only that but I feel that once again, the whole "comic books" theme can get pretty heavy-handed since Morrison repeats such words so many times that it gets old.
Ivan Reis is completely brilliant in art duties though, he manages to bring the multiple superheroes from alternate realities and give them justice. There's a lot of beauty and diversity.
So overall, this is still a nice but kinda disappointing ending. It's good if you want to complete the series but don't expect a sense of closure.
