Some thoughts about Convergence: Shazam #1

Captain Marvel has returned but the people don't have faith in him anymore.

Doctor Sivana managed to make the Marvel family disappear for years and now that they have returned, they will not only have to face the mistrust from the city but also the revenge of an old enemy.

This might as well not be connected to Convergence and that's a great thing actually.

Jeff Parker delivers one of the strongest tie-ins from this event by barely touching the main plot and instead focusing on what made the original Captain Marvel great. The characterization for classic Billy Batson was pretty on-point and he certainly demonstrates why he's the one who was chosen for the mantle.

Not only that but the rest of the cast also receive nice portrayals especially the villains. We see some old and often ignored antagonists like Mister Atom, King Kull and Ibac return in respectufl ways. Plus, the writer is certainly having fun with the style of the series and referencing old stories, pretty good homework.

Doc Shaner is in charge of the art and manages to capture the tone of story perfectly by being quite similar to the original style of Captain Marvel. It has a lot of charm.

Great issue, if you love Captain Marvel you should definitely pick this up.
