Some thoughts about Convergence: Man of Steel #1

In a Metropolis without Superman, Steel will have to assume his role.

Thanks to his armor, John is still able to keep fighting while most of the other heroes lost their powers. However, this might not be enough to face the current threat.

This issue marks the return of Louise Simonson writing the character of John Henry Irons after years so how does it fares?

Not really well sadly.

Let's focus on the negatives that you will immediately see: The writing is pretty dated. The characters tend to go into overexposition a lot and the amount of thought bubbles don't help matters, it simply is way too old school to fit into modern sensibilities.

The characterization is decent with John acting the way you would expect and it was nice to see Natasha and Bibbo back. Sadly, the story is nothing impressive by itself.

June Brigman is on pencils and her work is good-looking with a semi-cartoony style and nicely depicted characters.

Other than that, this is a pretty mediocre issue. Don't bother with it.
