Some thoughts about Gotham Academy #8

The misteries of Gotham Academy continue to unravel.

Kyle is pretty worried due to the relationship between Olive and Tristan and he's decided to learn more about it no matter the dangers it could bring.

Well, this title returns and it's as charming as usual but I find a huge problem in this chapter.

And that problem is Kyle.

Are you familiar with Shoujo manga which is made for girls? Because if you are you might recognize the stereotype of the cute guy who doesn't have much personality and is just there to be in love and worry about the heroine (which is the opposite that happens in Shounen manga which is made for boys and has a girl in that place). Kyle sadly doesn't have a personality and his whole existence is to be concerned about Olive and his role doesn't have much importance aside from that.

Which makes a chapter focused on him completely boring, the guy simply can't hold the story by himself and for that reason the plot is not as strong as previous issues. However, what happens around him is certainly interesting like Tristan the Man-Bat, the revelations about Olive, etc. I just wish they would have been the center of this chapter.

Karl Kerschl continues on art duties and his work is simply wonderful with an style similar to what you would find in paintings and something worth of appreciation by itself.

I would still say that this is a solid issue but not as good as the others.
