What created the Batman who Laughs?
The Dark Multiverse has awoken some of the most terrifying things that ever existed and none of them are more terrifying than the creature that mixes both the Batman and the Joker.
Pleasently surprised by this one.
As most people know, I haven't been impressed by James Tynion IV's work as a whole. His stories tend to have anticlimactic resolutions and poor characterization as a whole. However, focusing on an Elseworld story apparently reveals his strengths since the story of a Batman mixed with the Joker proves to be more interesting than I was anticipating.
At its core this is a horror story, one that tells the tale of a Batman who descended into insanity thanks to the influence of his nemesis and one that becomes really horrifying really fast. The way how the Batman who Laughs deals with his former loved ones is just nightmare inducing and is quite appropriate for the darkest Batman from the Metal crossover. Not to mention that makes the motivations of this Batman strangely logical as well, particularly the ending.
Riley Rossmo's artwork certainly sells this story thanks to the wonderful and gothic style that depicts every awful things that the protagonist does perfectly along with great storytelling.
Good read, this makes me realize that Tynion should simply delivers one-shot stories since his true flaws appear once that he tries to create long arcs.
