Some thoughts about Forever Evil: A.R.G.U.S. #6

The fate of the world depends of Steve Trevor's survival or at least that's what they want us to believe.

Steve has been suffering a lot due to the recent events that have put his life in peril, but he will realize that his time for suffering needs to end if he wants to make A.R.G.U.S. and himself strongers. Unfortunately, he may be still being manipulated for other forces.

Steve Trevor and Killer Frost will have to work together if they want to survive the attack of Wonder Woman's nemesis.

The Cheetah has been recluting creatures similar to her so she can use them for her plans and Steve will have to face the power of the Lasso of Truth to save himself. However, even if he defeats Cheetah it doesn't mean that his problems will be over.

Can the recently formed new A.R.G.U.S team find the Justice League before the Secret Society destroys them?

Steve Trevor along with the different people he has been recluting will have to try their best to survive if they want to find the secret headquarters from their organization and disvering the key to save the rest fo the superheroes.

Steve Trevor will have to sacrifice his most precious memories if he wants to find the Justice League.

Steve will have to find Professor Stein if he wants to learn the wherabouts of Firestorm but what he will discover is something even more dangerous. Meanwhile, Doctor Light has been recruited by a new organization that has more extreme plans than A.R.G.U.S.

Vibe final fight to save Prime Earth from an interdimensional threat finally ends.

Cisco has done everything he could to save both Gipsy and his brother Armando but sometimes one needs to accept the inevitable.

Some thoughts about Forever Evil: A.R.G.U.S. #2

Now that the surperheros have disappeared Steve Trevor will have to handle the Secret Society by himself.

Despite of Steve being able to survive the attack made by Deathstroke and the rest of the supervillains there are still several threats in the world and to stop them he will be forced to make a deal with an otherworldly entity.

Pretty nice issue. Sterling Gates plays with this characters pretty well by exploring their different motivations, personalities and strenghts, especially concerning Steve since he's able to take the Secret Society by himself and shows that he had a history besides what we saw in the pages of Justice League. Killer Frost also has an appearance and Gates developes more of her character as in her one-shot from Villains Month.

My major gripe here is the art. Neil Edwards handles it but it's pretty uneven which could be due to having two different inkers but even with that disadvantage it should be more consistent.

Solid story so far. I think this is my favorite Forever Evil tie-in.

Some thoughts about Justice League of America's Vibe #9

In order to save Gypsy and his brother Vibe will have to sacrifice everything.

On the strange dimension where Gypsy was born her step mother is the complete and cruel ruler who is also the culprit for Armando's brainwave, but the biggest problem might be that one of the people who is trying to help Cisco has more desperate measures to accomplish their mission.

I can express enough my disappointment about the cancellation of this title, especially when is getting so good. The story about a dictator from another dimension who wants to rule others is a classic and is one trope that Sterling Gates handles pretty well, there are also a lot of good character moments for each protagonist and Cisco continues to be one of the most relatable and charming heroes currently.

That's one of the best compliments to this series, it's charming. Vibe forming his own Justice League in another dimension? Charming. The love that exists between the Ramones brothers? Charming, etc. It's something that I find really appealing.

Derlis Santacruz is on art this time and it's okay, not spectacular but he gets the job done.

Good issue. Why didn't you buy this series people?

Some thoughts about Forever Evil: A.R.G.U.S. #1

Now that the Justice League is dead which heroes are left to face the menace of the Crime Syndicate?

Steve Trevor always had problems trusting others but started changing years ago when he first arrived on Paradise Island. Now that the supervillains are the dominant forces of earth Steve has no other choice but taking the role of leader for A.R.G.U.S. once again.

First things first, the direction of this series was obviously changed at the last minute. Most people know that Matt Kindt was originally set to write this miniseries but now he has been replaced by Sterling Gates who actually does a pretty good job at creating an intriguing story, we had the presence of a unknown threat aside from the Crime Syndicate, the reconstruction of A.R.G.U.S., the origin of Steve Trevor, not to mention that in the last page we see the return of a hero that was assumed as dead but not one that you may actually expect.

Now that we're touching the subject of creative changes, apparently they had to scrap some of Philip Tan's work and put Neil Edwards and Javier Pina to help him. I have to say that Pina's art is the best penciller on this issue, his style is pretty clean and appealing while Tan's tends to be a bit dark and overusing gestures, Edwards' is definitely the worst though, it looks pretty rushed and unpolished.

Anyway, this issue had great characterization, interesting story and nice surprise at the end. I'm a bit disappointed about the loss of Matt Kindt but Sterling Gates is a damn fine replacement.

Some thoughts about Justice League of America's Vibe #8

Vibe is lost in the Multiverse.

Cisco is able to escape from Rupture but at a cost, he's now dwelling among the different dimensions and if he wants to save Gypsy and his brother he will need the help of a Breacher, a being who has exactly the same problems as him.

This was definitely a good one, Sterling Gates has developed a pretty good story so far based on Vibe's ability to move between the different universes as well as demonstrating a good handle on other characters like Amethyst. The premise of Vibe exploring other dimensions was something that I wanted to see since the beginning and I'm glad that we're finally starting to see it being exploited.

Plus, Vibe does a nice homage to The Flash on Crisis on Infinite Earths, that made me smile.

Andres Guinaldo is on art and he does a quite good job actually, I would say that it even looks better than Pete Woods' work at times.

Best issue yet which makes the recent cancellation much more disappointing.

Some thoughts about Justice League of America #7.4: Black Adam

Kahndaq is under a terrible reign and they need their savior back.

Amon and Adrianna are two siblings that couldn't have more different ideologies, they still want the same thing however, the best for their people and when a descendant of the tyrant Ibac comes to rule their country they will have no other choice to summon Black Adam back to life.

This was another impressive collaboration between Geoff Johns and Sterling Gates. Making both Amon and Adrianna (who were the incarnations of Osiris and Isis respectively in the previous continuity) the main characters was a pretty interesting choice, not to mention that it also sets Black Adam's story for both Forever Evil and the upcoming Shazam series.

One problem though, one of the protagonists dies but who says that character will stay that way?

Edgar Salazar is doing the art and he has a pretty expressive and detailed work, is pretty appealing.

Another great Shazam issue, the future ongoing looks more and more promising.

Some thoughts about Justice League #23.4: Secret Society

Everything you know may be twisted and perverse on another world.

The Outsider tells his own story on Earth 3 as well as the different aspects from that world and how they influenced in the creation of Owlman, explaining his interest on the Earth Prime version of Dick Grayson and his current state.

Geoff Johns and Sterling Gates have done a magnificent job here. Both authors take hints from previous incarnations of Earth 3 (especially from Grant Morrison) but they add their own takes and hints to the world including an interesting depiction of the Joker from that world as well as Thomas Wayne's origin and his relationship with Superwoman. Plus, it also has a pretty natural connection to the Forever Evil event, it's a pretty good little story that works as a stand alone issue and a tie-in.

Symon Kundranski is on the artwork and his grim and gritty pencils fit the tone of this issue wonderfully. I would love to see this guy in a noir inspired book.

Best issue of the week for me, these writers are great together

Some thoughts about Justice League of America #7.2: Killer Frost

Why is Killer Frost obsessed with Firestorm?

Caitlin Snow was a scientist who loved working in cold temperatures but after getting in the way of some other greedy scientists from S.T.A.R. Labs she gets transformed into a being of pure ice whose primal objective is to try to feel warm again and hopefully go back to normal.

Sterling Gates has created a quite nice origin for this classic Firestorm villain as well as giving her an understandable motivation and a sympathetic background. I have to mention that I really appreciate the research Gates did for this issue, explaining some interesting aspects from cold to make the story much more satisfying.

Derlis Santacruz was in charge of the pencils in this issue. I didn't know who he was before but now I'm really interested in his work, he has a really clean and expressive style that it's a mix between cartoony and realistic, I really liked it.

Definitely enjoyable. Hope that Gates can keep this kind of work in his
following villains issues.
