Some thoughts about Superman #31

Superman's life continues to be in peril due to the Doomsday infection how do the rest of the world will react to that?

The Justice League along with its new member, Lex Luthor, are trying to help Clark to stop the influence of Doomsday over him, but Lois Lane might be the only one able to push him into the right or wrong direction.

This is the fifth chapter of the "Doomed" crossover story told in the Superman books and at the same time the last issue from Scott Lobdell's run on the title. The author has been the ongoing writer of the main Superman book since September 2012 starting with issue 0, was he able to tell a satisfying final story?

Well, I'm willing to say no unfortunately.

For one, it advances the plot of the crossover solidly by motivating Superman to get out of his current prison and at the same time it progresses the mystery about the state of Lois Lane, but it's not a story particularly impressive nor well-told.

It doesn't really work as an ending for Lobdell's run either since the author tries to put some of the ideas and characters he worked on like Teen Titans but doesn't do it greatly either. However, I must say that I liked the metacommentary: "Did I help?" as final words for his run.

Ed Benes and Jack Herbert share the pencils in this issue and both do a pretty good job, I must say that I continue to be a fan of Benes style despite that sometimes he goes a bit overboard with the cheesecake.

Overall, I would say that Lobdell's whole run is worthy if you're interested in Superman stories on crazy sci-fi scenarios, the execution was not the best at times but still was for the most part entertaining. I just wish that his final issue was stronger.
