Some thoughts about Futures End #1

Batman has come back to the past to try to save his future, the problem is that he apparently arrived too late.

The machines are already destroying every living being including some of the most powerful ones, not even Stormwatch seems to be able to stop them. The only hope from this time appears to be Grifter and Firestorm but due to the irresponsibility of the latter, one of the members from the Justice League is going to die.

All right, this is the proper beginning for the ongoing weekly series fully called "The New 52: Futures End" and now it's pretty obvious why it had that kind of name. Issue 0 from FCBD did a solid job at setting-up the stage for the series so how does this issue follows that premise?

Thankfully, it's much better than the last installment. Despite of being written by 4 authors with distinct voices like Brian Azzarello, Jeff Lemire, Keith Giffen and Dan Jurgens, the issue still manages to keep a cohesive tone during the story and some of the character segments are pretty well done, especially the one focusing in Grifter and Firestorm.

I also must mention that the potential of this plot is much more promising the I expected. This is an interesting setting for the story and this particular future is an intriguing one.

About who dies? Well, for people who have read the solicitations of future issues this shouldn't be a surprise. Shame that my favorite superhero had to die though.

Patrick Zircher is in charge of art duties and his work is absolutely stunning. The character models are beautiful, the action is fantastic and the overall style he brings to this title is quite appropiate for it.

Promising first issue definitely, a bit of a fast read but the next one comes next week so I shouldn't complaint.
