Squirrel Girl is ready to take a new direction in her life.
Doreen is about to enter college to pursue a career but that doesn't mean that her superheroic job will be put aside since a supervillain is about to attack her university.
Yet another beginning for a character who has gained her own fanbase over the course of the years. Speaking personally, I have always been kinda interested in Squirrel Girl due to her appearance in other titles and her whole premise. So, does this new series delivers on such ridiculous concept?
So far I would say it does a nice job.
Ryan North brings an enjoyable and relaxed first story where he introduces us to a Squirrel Girl who acts as silly as her name indicates. She can communicate with squirrels, she creates her own theme song and she deals with common thugs.
The characterization is pretty on-point which is also followed by a comedic and kid-friendly style that is more akin to works like Adventure Time but it also has enough charm and humour that can be enjoyed for people of all ages.
The way how Squirrel Girl handled the fight with the supervillain was also creative.
Erica Henderson's pencils contribute a lot to the story due that her cartoony style is quite distinctive and manages to bring another level of lightheartedness into the mix.
Solid issue as I mentioned, hopefully it will also become better in following issues.
