Some thoughts about Red Lanterns #38

Guy Gardner is back on earth but can he handle it?

After the last battle against Atrocitus, many people have been corrupted by the Red Ring of Rage and they're starting to act as unreasonable maniacs. Guy will have to learn that to save them, he will need to do the worst as usual.

I forgot to mention in my last thoughts that Charles Soule actually finished his run in the previous chapter and now he has been replaced by Landry Walker of Danger Club fame for the remaining three issues of this book. So, does the new writer delivers?

So far, sadly no, he doesn't.

There are many problems in this issue that can be summarized as this: Whenever Guy says the word "anger" or "angry" take a drink, you will be dead of alcohol poisoning before you even finish the issue.

The writing is pretty heavyhanded to get to the point, Walker is trying to explore some of the same concepts that Peter Milligan was exploring at the beginning of this title but he's doing it in a pretty blunt way in comparison. The core idea is not bad and the plot is also okay but the narration is so repetitive that it just takes you out of the story.

Jim Calafiore returns to art duties and his work continues to be as expressive and detailed as ever. Sadly, he's not enough to save this tale.

Disappointing issue, I don't know if this is the kind of ending I wanted for this book.
