Some thoughts about Red Lanterns Annual #1

Atrocitus is going to strike back in full force and Guy Gardner and his team might not be prepared to stop him.

Atrocitus has decided to create as much chaos and Red Lanterns as he wishes in Earth while Guy can do nothing but trying to save the most people he's able to. However, that's not one of the biggest problems due that there's a traitor in Guy's group and one of his Red Lanterns will have to pay to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Okay, no spoilers here, this Annual exceeded all my expectations and more.

Charles Soule brings one of the biggest chapters from this title's history by creating one of its most epic stories in terms of scale. The attack against Earth is pretty much the worst thing that Atrocitus could have thought to hurt Guy Gardner and it works pretty well based on that premise.

The writer not only creates a great pay-off for all the previous issues where he was building-up to this particular story but also most of the sub-plots get resolved here. There's a twist concerning one of those plot-points here and it's executed perfectly while creates a quite good level of tension.

There's even some fun moments like when Guy encounters Batman and Soule reminisces one of the most famous moments between them. It was a nice touch.

About "that death", I will only say that I'm really going to miss him.

Miguel Sepulveda handles pencils and his work is fantastic. He actually was one of the artists who handled the title in the past and his work continues to be pretty appropriate here, his creature models are really creepy while his human characters express emotions pretty well.

This is the issue that deliver the "event" feel from this week, don't you dare to miss it!
