Some thoughts about Batman #33

Everything has come down to this.

The final battle between Batman and the Riddler for the fate of Gotham City is at hand, it depends on Batman to guess correctly if he wants to save everyone but even despite that he might think he's ready for it he will still need help no matter what.

The conclusion of the Zero Year saga in which both Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo have been working for a while, did it deliver on its promise?

Well, I was entertained, that's for certain.

It has been quite the ride since the beginning from the true early days of Batman and his fight against the Red Hood while losing Gotham City to both Doctor Death and the Riddler to the final confrontation with the latter, everything has been constructed perfectly since Scott Snyder really knows how to create an engaging script while exploring the different aspects from the protagonist's personality as well as his world.

Some people might say that Zero Year went a bit too long and while some of that is true, there's no doubt that it was greatly paced and delivered a lot of content by each chapter. The event even was structured to be told in different little arcs which made this long travel to the past much more tolerable.

This issue actually delivers a lot in both action and character work. The Riddler continues to be presented as believable threat but he's defeated in a way that makes sense considering the kind of person who Batman is and the allies he has. The conclusion brings a really emotional moment between Bruce and Alfred and in fact, makes Bruce's character much stronger and understandable than ever while also presenting us a "what if" scenario that makes such resolve much more powerful.

Greg Capullo is simply a master of storytelling and beauty, he has been delivering a brilliant work in art duties not only since the beginning of this saga but also since the start of this whole series. This issue is no different and manages to make Snyder's script so much better thanks to his ability to depict great moments.

Excellent conclusion for an excellent storyarc. It gives me hope for the future.
