Some thoughts about Superman Unchained #9

Superman will have to stop the threat that has been building since he embarked in this mission but at what cost?

Lex Luthor is counting on Superman to save to world but by doing so he will have to lose his life. However, due to the kind of person that Clark is, others won't allow that to happen.

The end of this initially highly anticipated story written by some of the most popular creators in the industry, Scott Snyder and Jim Lee. Superman Unchained was originally received with great hype but due to the quality of the story itself and the constant delays, people were losing interest on it month by month. So, does this issue redeems the whole series?

Sadly no, it doesn't.

For one, Scott Snyder initially teased that this was the biggest story that he could tell about Superman but is ultimately a pretty derivative one that doesn't tell anything really new nor surprising about the character nor what he stands for. The whole concept has been done before and unfortunately this is not one of the best efforts.

Even the ending is pretty predictable, guess who actually sacrificed himself to save the world?

I will say this though, Lex Luthor was pretty amusing in this series. I really enjoyed his scenes.

Jim Lee's artwork is actually pretty good in this chapter. Less rushed and with a great sense of scale, his storytelling techniques might not be the best but damn, does it look good.

Average issue. Too bad that this book didn't actually delivered what it promised.
