The Black Knight will need to fight new enemies as well as his own allies.
Dane Whitman has found himself in a place where he needs to do his best to save his friends and himself. However, there's a bigger danger getting close to him and it could be his own weapon.
I will be the first to admit that I'm not exactly a fan of the character and I don't know much about him but I'm always willing to try new things and support obscure heroes. So, does this issue succeed at delivering a good first impression for a new fan like me?
Sadly, not really.
Frank Tieri opens the story with Dane fighting alongside his soldiers and is not a bad premise per se since it contains the kind of supernatural and medieval aspects that you would expect from someone with a name like Blakc Knight. However, is not particularly well-told since the narration is not as profound as you would expect from this kind of story and at times it feels a bit lacking in creativity.
There are some interesting aspects like the exploration of the legacy of the character as well as how his own powers could mean his doom but again, is not particularly impressive in its execution. The characterization is also serviceable but doesn't make you care that much about the protagonist either.
Luca Pizzari handles the artwork and he does a solid job at following the story and creating intense action scenes but the style is not really beautiful and the characters are not very appealing.
Not impressed yet unfortunately, hopefully future issues will be better.
